Three Willows Vineyard hand-made wines

Three Willows Vineyard is ideally situated for cool climate viticulture at lat. 41º S, elevation 200-250m, on a gentle north-facing slope with free draining 'terra rosa' basalt soil rich in ironstone. Typically, most of the rainfall occurs in late winter and spring followed by a dry summer and autumn – perfect for premium quality fruit.

The first vines were planted in spring 2002, with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris being the main varieties, followed by plantings of the rare French hybrid Baco Noir in 2005.

Viticultural practice at Three Willows is based on organic principles. The ducks (pictured above) put in long hours keeping snail and slug populations in check. We are heartened by the continued presence of frogs in the vineyard. The combination of site, climate, aspect, soil, trellising and cultural practices have come together here at Three Willows to form a unique terroir - one that is now seeing these dry-grown vines produce exceptional fruit.

Winemaking is carried on here in a traditional way – employing such measures as hand lees-stirring, basket pressing, piggagé (foot stomping) and, most importantly, time. This distinguishes our wines as truly hand-made.

We invite you to taste the difference.
